THE NEEM TREE
A member of the mahogany family, The Neem Tree is unusual in that it is one of very few shade-giving trees that thrive in drought prone areas. Also known as Indian Lilac, it is characterized by white, fragrant flowers cascading down its wide branches. In India, the Neem is regarded as a sacred tree due to its medicinal properties. Its fruits and seeds are the source of neem oil, which is used for healthy hair, to improve liver function, detoxify the blood, and balance blood sugar levels. Neem leaves have been used to treat skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis. Neem is also a natural alternative to synthetic pesticides and, when applied regularly, deters pests from eating and laying eggs on crops. Neem leaves are burned to repel mosquitoes, and placed in rice tins and cupboards to keep away insects. SavATree uses Neem Tree extracts in its organic program.
