Spotted Lanternflies

SavATree - Tree Service & Lawn Care

Spotted lanternflies (SLF) suck the sap out of various fruit, ornamental, and woody trees, leaving them vulnerable to attacks from other insects and diseases. SLFs excrete a sticky honeydew substance which can interfere with the tree’s ability to complete photosynthesis while attracting other swarms of insects that feed on it. Watch out for sap oozing from tiny holes in the trunk, masses of brownish-gray eggs, and build-up of honeydew beneath the tree.

Beech Leaf Disease

Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) is a fast-spreading affliction that targets beech foliage, causing dark bands and premature leaf loss and leading to tree decline. BLD is believed to be associated with a parasitic nematode that punctures the leaves and feeds on their cells, but little is known about its spread and initial cause. BLD will severely weaken the tree’s overall health, leaving it susceptible to other destructive pests and diseases.

Box Tree Moths

Box Tree Moths feed exclusively on boxwoods. The young caterpillars feed on the undersides of leaves, which gives them a “peeled” appearance from the top. Older caterpillars consume almost the entire leaf. Extensive feeding can quickly defoliate, damage, and kill individual plants and entire plantings. Caterpillars also web together leaves to construct silken retreats.
