Nature Tech

If you’re a nature or tree lover with a smartphone or tablet device, there is a world of apps out there waiting to be discovered. Here are a few of our favorites:

LEAFSNAP

leafsnap is an electronic field guide for your smartphone or tablet that uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species. As the name would imply, just snap a picture of a leaf and the app scans it’s database and returns high resolution images of the associated leaves, flowers, fruit, petiole, seeds, and bark. Currently, leafsnap includes only trees of the Northeast but is growing and will soon feature trees from the entire continental United States.
