Arizona – How healthy is your soil?

Soil plays a huge role in the health of your trees and shrubs, supplying nutrients, water, oxygen, and a place for plants to sink their roots.

It should come as no surprise, then, that one of the most important factors we consider when examining your trees and shrubs is the condition of your soil.

Soil quality changes from area to area. In the Phoenix area it tends to be highly compacted and sometimes rocky. This makes it difficult for air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots.

PH is another key factor. Plants generally do best in near-neutral or slightly acidic, lower pH, soil. But soils in our area tend to be alkaline with a higher pH, which can block plants from absorbing the nutrients the soil does have.

Soil solutions

As long as we know the state of the soil, we can build a strategy for correcting its deficiencies so that your trees and shrubs can thrive.

Here are four SavATree solutions:

ArborHealth

A slow release organic blend fertilizer that provides micro and macro nutrients and sea kelp to correct plant nutritional deficiencies.

Sulfur

A soil amendment that helps neutralize alkaline soils.

ArborKelpĀ®

A seaweed biostimulant that promotes rood growth and heightens stress tolerance.

Aeration

In special cases, we might use mechanical, air, or water pressure to break up compacted soil, create vertical or horizontal channels to incorporate mulch, or to simply remove excess soil above the plant root collar.
