Today we had the pleasure of participating in a great event at Humanim‘s offices at the historic American Brewery building.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced the launch of the Growing Green Initiative.
A year and a half ago, the US Forest Service Northern Research Station funded development of the Green Pattern Book. The Baltimore Office of Sustainability went through a long process of engaging design, greening, and stormwater professionals and community stakeholders to develop the Green Pattern Book. This book identified 8 typologies of greening projects for vacant lands.
EPA, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, and Baltimore City DPW have subsequently each committed $100,000 for a total of $300,000 for a design competition based on the Green Pattern Book. This will let us “ground-truth” the Book before USFS NRS releases a final version this fall based on lessons learned by this summer’s design competition.
The RFP for this exciting green infrastructure design competition can be found here.
