Stressed trees are at heightened risk of a Mediterranean pine engraver beetle infestation.
The Mediterranean pine engraver beetle was found in the Phoenix area in 2018. This pest bores holes and tunnels in the bark of a tree, feeds on the layer just below the bark, and blocks the tree’s ability to transport water and nutrients.
While the pine engraver beetle typically attacks stressed and unhealthy trees, it can infest healthy trees, too. We can help control current beetle populations in your trees and take proper measures to prevent new infestations from occurring in the future.
Signs of an infestation include:
- Needles turning pale, then red and brown
- Boring dust or sawdust
- Entrance holes
- Pitch tubes, or streams of resin that harden to white or yellow nodes on the side of the tree
SavATree offers trunk injections to control existing infestations and borer treatments to help protect your trees from experiencing new infestations. Our expert arborists can also recommend treatments throughout the season to maintain tree vigor and develop more resistance against this pest. Contact us today.
