During a recent inventory performed by the SavATree Consulting group, Matt Weibel one of the Registered Consulting Arborists at SavATree found issues with cable maintenance on a Norway Maple. One of the most overlooked parts of installing cables is inspecting/adjusting them after installation. In this case, the image above depicts a dynamic tree save cable that was neglected after installation. Once a cable starts to girdle branches, nutrient flow can be cut off from the limb leading to decay pockets and an increased risk of failure.
I inspect cables that we install every 2-3 seasons, as trees grow it is very important to adjust and verify the condition of the system that was installed. With regular visits from your Arborist, situations like this can be prevented.
