The Road to Becoming an Industrial Athlete

Growing up, Ryan Torcicollo was fascinated by nature. Now, he’s made a career out of doing what he loves. SavATree - Tree Service & Lawn Care

From a young age, Ryan Torcicollo was intrigued by the structure of trees. As he fostered this connection with nature, he also felt an invisible pull to climb. He began with rock climbing, but quickly realized he was destined to put his love of trees and climbing together. Ryan’s adoration for trees bloomed as he spent much of his time learning climbing techniques. Driven by enthusiasm for the environment, he worked as a contract climber for multiple tree service companies until taking over ownership of Wasatch Arborists in 2015, a reputable tree service company in northern Utah. He was introduced to competitive tree climbing shortly after and earned the champion title in Utah’s annual competition three years in a row!

By 2017, he had placed 4th in the North American Tree Climbing Competition (NATCC), and became the 2nd place winner at the 2018 Jambo Tree Climbing Competition, an annual event where arborists participate in various challenges. Ryan’s climbing skills flourished, as did his love for competitive climbing.

“The pure talent and comradery at climbing competitions is something you won’t find at your standard sporting event,” Ryan said. “You don’t usually see an opponent cheering the other guy on. That’s what makes these competitions so unique.”

SavATree is thrilled to announce Ryan’s exciting promotion to General Tree Care Talent Developer, made possible by SavATree’s acquisition of Wasatch Arborists. As safety is a pillar of SavATree’s business model, his focus will be to promote the safe and appropriate practice of tree care by training our staff with valuable safety and climbing techniques. He plans to meet SavATree’s strong demand for tree care services by setting up an internal climbing school, recruiting new members and instructing staff on critical procedures. Ryan’s impressive qualifications make him a “tree-mendous” choice for this position!
