Today I attended the groundbreaking event for a green infrastructure project on a vacant lot in Baltimore. Last fall, we highlighted the winners of the Growing Green Design Competition. The competitors, teams of community members and professionals, submitted designs based on the Green Pattern Book. The project we celebrated today was one of the winners of the competition.

It was a great event and well attended by community members. The asphalt removal will begin mid-August, shrubs and herbaceous plants will be installed at the end of September, and trees will be planted in October. The combination of recreational space and green infrastructure will reduce runoff by 242,000 gallons annually.
