Meet Angel Cabral

CONSULTING ARBORIST AT SAVATREE

Angel started in the green industry after a rewarding early career as a first responder serving cities in Southern California. Having successfully completed a State Fire Marshall Regional Fire Academy and obtaining certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, Angel’s previous career in Fire Suppression and Emergency Medical Services imparted a wide range of experience and leadership skills. The gained experiences early on have served Angel well in the Arboriculture industry. Great communication skills and problem-solving skills have not only benefited Angel, but the clients and trees he cares for as well.

Angel started out his Arborist journey in 2015, starting as an Arborist Assistant learning as much as possible before being put into a project manager role. Angel’s background and training in incident management and resource utilization lead to innovations and rapid promotions during his tenure. With a natural personality of engaging with clients and explaining proper Arboricultural practices Angel became an Arborist representative while handling project management responsibilities. With a healthcare background and understanding, Angel was instrumental in the development and growth of a robust Plant Health Care service line while gaining his California Department of Pesticide Qualified Applicator’s License. Within 2 years Angel was promoted to a Branch Manager position leading a department of 33 people serving Southern California.

Angel has worked on and managed numerous highly technical jobs throughout Southern California from big to small in scope, one such large technical job is a City of Los Angeles Cultural Monument, the Chase Knolls community in Sherman Oaks. Working with several project partners and a conservation entity, preservation and detailed reporting at the project site were of up most importance.

As an ISA Certified Arborist (WE-13969A) and former EMS professional, he brings a wide range of unique skill sets and knowledge with professionalism to every project he is involved in. His “service of others first” mentality and drive to be of service are an unteachable commitment to do what is right with integrity. Angel’s commitment to being of service to others has led to Angel being a site leader the last 4 years for Saluting Branches, which is a volunteer event for Arborists to provide their skills and tools at National Cemeteries throughout the country.

Angel takes on projects with a different approach, treating trees as his “patients” in a similar way as he cared for those people patients that called 911 for care in preservation and management plans. In construction and enhancement projects where attention to detail and meticulous organization is paramount, Angels incident management background is an asset to all teams involved.

Why did you become an Arborist?

I stumbled into the “green industry” while I was moving on from my EMS career, a childhood friend was a finance manager at Honda dealership and asked me to join him as an Internet Sales Manager. I sold two Honda Civics to the Vice President of Business Development for a regional landscape firm. During the sales process for the vehicles for his family members, I was asked if I would be interested in a career to get me outside and an opportunity to learn and grow. I took the leap to learn a new skillset and used my “probationary fireman” approach to learn everything I could at the time and give my all. The general tree care operation side spoke to my background in fireground operations, and the tree healthcare and management spoke to my pre-hospital care background. I have not looked back since I started and found opportunities to use my skills and knowledge to give back to my community and continue to be of service to those in need on some unique and neat projects. I also love being outside and learning something new everyday.
