Observations in the Field:
The Biggest American Elm Tree in My Care
February 11, 2020 – Pictured is our lead climber Alberto Estrada in one of the biggest American Elm trees in my care. The client loves the tree and contacted us because she was worried the tree didn’t look good after the construction of her house. The house was built in the 2010s, and this tree bore the brunt of the construction process. We are treating it with our Arbor Balance product every three years. This medicine helps to slow down the trees proclivity to grow and spread seeds, forcing it to put out critical roots underground to replace those damaged during construction. The tree receives nutrient treatments spring summer and fall, as well as a Dutch Elm Disease treatment every 3 seasons. The tree is in recovery and the client is pleased with our service!
The Famous Tivoli Cottonwood
August 14, 2019 – This famous Tivoli cottonwood lives in my hometown of Downers Grove. The tree needs to be pruned to keep it healthy and alive! I measured the tree in 2011 and, at the time, it had a diameter of 96 inches. If you are interested in the most professional tree care in the Chicago area, reach out to your SavATree Certified Arborist right away.
Alaskan Trees Need Love Too
July 29, 2019 – On a recent trip to Alaska, my wife and I explored the beautiful hiking trails. We are both arborists and have a deep love for trees. We enjoyed appreciating the beauty of Alaska’s wilderness and giving their beautiful trees some love!
English Oak
July 18, 2019 – A young couple moved into a fixer upper in a local neighborhood, so I thought I was going on a call to look at a dead or dying tree. Much to my surprise, the old gal is in good shape and just needs a haircut and some Arbor kelp. 37 in in in diameter. This was the biggest English oak I had ever seen in the Chicago Metro area, located in Oak Park, IL. Gosh, I love trees!
10th Oaken Wedding Anniversary
July 2, 2019 – My wife and I were married 10 years ago on the Summer Solstice between these two pre-settlement oak trees. We had two shagbark hickories as witnesses. These beautiful giants are located in Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton, IL.
Ticks Be Gone!
June 25, 2019 – Our ace Plant Health Care Specialist, Phil Kubaik of the Warrenville branch is shown here with a box of Tick Habitat Treatment tubes, placed strategically throughout the property. Cotton is impregnated with the technical material inside the tubes. Field mice and other rodents love the cotton to line their nests. When the mice come back to the nest, the ticks are exposed to the product and expire. This product really works. Tubes are installed in the spring and the fall when the mice are actively nesting. Safe for humans and most mammals, but deadly to ticks.
The Trolls of Morton Arboretum
June 25, 2019 – I finally had a chance to visit the mighty trolls at the Morton Arboretum. It’s an amazing display of art and nature. Pictured are me and my nephew visiting one of the trolls. Must see when you are in the Chicago area.
Big Ash Tree Saved in Wood Dale, IL
June 25, 2019 – One of my clients from Wood Dale, IL is pictured with her very large and beautiful Marshall seedless ash tree that we’ve been injecting with our Emerald Ash Borer Treatments since 2009 to protect it from a harmful infestation by the invasive species. The tree is pristine and if you are not sure if the treatment works, I have 50 other properties with trees just like this that were saved by SavATree. Contact us today and schedule a free consultation with a certified arborist.
Polar Vortex Casualties
May 26, 2019 – Many clients in the Chicago, IL Metro Area depend on the Boxwood as the workhorse of the formal landscape. This is the second Polar Vortex, on top of the 2015/2016 one, that took out many boxwoods in the area. My personal tree, a Perrotia Persia, was frozen to death this winter and we had to cut it down. Do all you can to ensure the health of the trees and shrubs on your property. SavATree has many treatment options to protect your property from the harmful effects of a harsh winter. Contact us today to find out more!
Another SavATree Success Story
May 18, 2019 – A specimen Weeping Birch had to be transplanted last year due to flooding. It looked grim the first season we moved the tree, but has bounced back nicely this spring thanks to SavATree’s Plant Health Care services. Keep your trees healthy with the help of a certified arborist from SavATree. Contact us today!
Crabapple Tree in Full Bloom
May 18, 2019 – This longtime client poses with her crabapple tree, which is beautiful and in full bloom due to this cool, extended spring.
SavedATree in Lombard, IL
May 4, 2019 – Nearly 6 years ago, one of our clients did extensive landscape renovation. Not only was this stressful for the client, but it was also stressful for this huge, beautiful tree. When we started working with this client, the roots of the tree were very disturbed. Now, 6 years later, the tree is recovered and thriving. The client is proud of the tree and as am I! If your trees are in need of some TLC, contact your local SavATree arborist today!
Big Catalpa in Hinsdale, IL
