If you are noticing an abundance of crabgrass in your lawn this season you are not alone. Heavy spring rains have allowed these unsightly weeds to thrive on many landscapes over the summer of 2014. In fact, researchers at Rutgers University have reported that they have never seen a more severe infestation of crabgrass…even with the best spring treatments.

Options to Deal with Crabgrass

Here are a few tips to get you on your way:

  • Maintain weekly mowing to remove seedheads and prevent scalping which encourages growth
  • Core aerate and overseed this fall to thicken your lawn and reduce open areas prone to the weed
  • Slice seed (if you have irrigation) heavily infested areas
