What are Brian’s Clients Saying?
April 26, 2019 was Arbor Day in the United States. This is a day dedicated to public tree-planting throughout the U.S., Australia and other countries. SavATree is proud to participate in many tree planting events throughout the country each year. On Arbor Day 2019, Brian visited his four-year-old son’s school where he gave a presentation to roughly 120 children, teaching them about Arbor Day and the importance of trees and why we plant them. The children were excited to see Juan, one of our crew members, go up and down in the bucket truck!
Observations in the Field:
July 9, 2019 – Euonymus scale is a non-native scale that attacks evergreen shrub and vine forms of Euonymus. In addition, this insect attacks privet, bittersweet and pachysandra. Euonymus scales feed on plant sap. Feeding damage first appears as yellow spots on leaves. When infestations are heavy, scales encrust leaves and branches, with feeding damage causing defoliation and branch dieback. If you start to see these insects, contact us right away so that we can start controlling the infestation before it gets too serious!
Severe Decay in Pine Trees
June 24, 2019 – This pine tree on one of my clients’ properties is showing signs of major decay. A tree with this type of damage can be very hazardous to your home. This tree and one other on the property with severe decay are both roughly 15 feet away from this house and starting to lean toward the house. Unfortunately, these two trees will have to be removed. This can be prevented with regular, proper tree care. Contact your local SavATree arborist to schedule a free consultation with a certified arborist.
Uprooted Stump Removal
June 4, 2019 – I received a storm call for a huge oak tree that had narrowly missed the clients house, but uprooted and was damaging his patio. We completely removed the tree but had no idea how to remove the stump. We couldn’t get a stump grinder to it because the patio was elevated from the front lawn. We decided on a plan that consisted of using a log mover, air spade and stump grinder. We first started chipping away using the air spade and log mover trying to get big chunks taken out. Once we had enough room we brought in the stump grinder and ground out the rest of it. It was a huge success and the crew did an amazing job getting rid of the uprooted stump. SavATree provides the most professional tree removal in the Northern Virginia area. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation!
Prevent Tree Disasters
May 30, 2019 – The owner of the car pictured was driving down my street the other night when a huge tree came down on top of his car. It wasn’t windy at all, but the tree’s health had been compromised in some way and it gave out. Luckily, the owner of the car noticed the tree falling and was able to duck down, which probably saved him from serious injury. The car is completely destroyed, but he escaped with no injuries. This is a good example of why you should continuously have your trees inspected by a certified arborist. Contact SavATree today and prevent unnecessary disasters like this one!
May 22, 2019 – This maple tree on one of our clients’ properties has been infested by tree borers. Notice the sawdust tubes protruding from the bark. It can either look like this or really fine sawdust on the bark and near the base of the tree. In just a short time, they have damaged the tree to a point where a large limb and several smaller limbs have already died. We treated this tree with several systemic applications to kill off the active borer populations. If you see this condition with any ornamental tree in your landscape, contact us right away. Borers can do permanent damage to a tree in a very short period of time.
Trees Can Fall Anytime
May 18 2019 – A common thought is that trees really only fall when it’s raining heavily or during high winds. This is somewhat true, but they can also fall when the weather is calm. I received a call about 3 trees that came down onto a clients house in the evening with no winds or rain. Unfortunately, one of the tree’s root systems had been compromised by decay and rot over time, which caused failure for the roots to support the canopy. With no strength left, the tree came down, taking 2 other trees with it. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the damage was done. Always be mindful of your trees and have a SavATree arborist look at them regularly to make sure they are healthy!
Mulching & Cleaning Up Flower Beds
May 10, 2019 – This beautiful landscape design was done for a client in Annandale, VA. The flower beds on this client’s property were filled with nothing but weeds and there was no distinguishing factor between the base of the plants and the grass. There were also vines and ivy growing throughout all of their azaleas. We removed all of the weeds and ivy and trimmed all of the shrubs. We finished by edging the beds so they would stand out and mulching to give the yard that “wow factor”. As you see, the work we did significantly brightens up their front yard. See what working with a SavATree arborist can do for your yard. Contact us today!
How Heavy are Trees?
April 27, 2019 – I get a lot of questions about tree removal and trimming safety practices and the weight of trees. Even small branches that fall can cause major damage. This is one example of what a large oak tree can do to a house with ease when it falls. This massive tree sliced through this home’s roof with no problem. We can never predict when a tree will fall, but we can provide ways to help make the trees safer. Contact your local SavATree arborist to assess the risk of the trees on your property!
April 27, 2019 – When deciding on a tree company to use for your tree care needs, make sure that they use the best practices when it comes to safety. SavATree is always looking for ways to make our crew members and clients’ properties safer. As you can see, one of our crew members is utilizing all of his Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to make sure he is safe. My son tried to imitate him, but is missing his chaps.
Any Tree Can be Hazardous
April 27, 2019 – This was a white oak tree that had been slowly declining over the past few years. I inspected it and realized it was time to finally remove it based on its condition, how close it was to the house and the root decay. On the day we removed it, it was very windy and we noticed that the high winds were actually uplifting the tree, causing it to lean toward the house. Thankfully, we were able to remove it safely before it fell. Always keep an eye out for potential hazards and have your local SavATree arborist examine the tree yearly to make sure it is structurally sound. Contact us today!
Why Do We Recommend Slice Seeding?
April 21, 2019 – A client called mid-summer wanting a great lawn for his backyard for his kid and dog to play on. Unfortunately, it was covered in nothing but weeds and the terrain was rough at best. My recommendation? Wipe out the entire backyard and till the soil to help level it out. Once level, we would use our slice seeder machine to lay seed down. After 3 – 4 weeks of proper watering he would see the results. Not even one year later, he not only has a very healthy lawn, but the best backyard in the neighborhood. The results are stunning!
Never Underestimate a Tree
April 21, 2019 – I received a call from a frantic person explaining he had an emergency and needed us out immediately. I get to the house and see that the individual had tried to remove a small tree himself using a chainsaw and a rope. Unfortunately for him, he had no experience with this type of work and ended up getting his chainsaw stuck and the tree leaning in the direction of his house. Thankfully, I was able to get a crew out that day and safely remove the tree and return his chainsaw unharmed. Tree work is not a DIY job…always let professionals do the work. If you would like to work with a professional tree care service, contact SavATree and set up a free consultation with a certified arborist.

Trees Living in Harmony in Annandale, VA
April 15, 2019 – A Dogwood and a Cherry Tree living in harmony together. One of these trees in Annandale, Virginia somehow grew after the other one was established. Many trees and shrubs can grow like this as long as they both can benefit.
