SavATree’s Bedford Branch hosted a kid’s tree climbing event at the 20th Annual Riverkeeper’s Shad Festival and Hudson River Celebration to help raise awareness of the health of the Hudson River and green living. This all-day festival was held on the banks of the Hudson River — the perfect backdrop for the hundreds of eco-interested attendees that came out to celebrate the resource that Riverkeeper works to protect.
SavATree, an innovator in the green industry and provider of environmentally-friendly tree services and lawn care, has been involved with Riverkeeper for many years.
Certified arborists, senior management and staff from SavATree were on hand to help the many kids that came out to climb like the pro’s. With the help of SavATree’s arborists, the kids used rope systems to hoist themselves up the tree, some making it as high as the tree’s canopy, nearly 30 feet off the ground.
Children as young as a year old took part. Those too young to climb were hoisted just a few feet off the ground and thrilled as they were pushed through the air like a swing.
Dane Buell, Director of Safety at SavATree was among the volunteers on hand. Dane said, “We’ve been doing this event for the last nine years and it’s always a big hit with the kids and parents. Even with as many ropes and volunteers as we have, there is always a long line of kids eagerly waiting their turn.”
SavATree also gave out “Go-Green” T-shirts to all the kids that participated. “By the end of the day, almost every child at the event had one of those green shirts on,” commented an attendee.
The climb event was a huge success and really helped to raise children’s environmental awareness.
