“Your tree crew (a father and two sons) just finished removing two trees, and pruning another on my property. They were extremely neat and professional, making sure that everything was they way they found it. I could not be more satisfied. I definitely plan on using your company for any future tree work on my property, and will also heartily recommend you to anyone I know needing your services.”

J. Andersen
Danbury, CT

“Efficient, high quality, professional competence — all at a competitive sum. At first [Alison] Pottage won me over by her solid knowledge as an arborist, then the crew did their job to her specifications on our 60 to 70 foot oaks within a remarkable period of time -- and left the grounds quite clean.”
Bob Busser
Philadelphia, PA

Shrub Care - Virginia Sweetspire

Itea virginica

Virginia sweetspire

Stretching across the United States, the Itea virginica or the Virginia sweetspire is a shrub characterized by simple leaves and delicate white flowers that bloom in summer. In summer, leaf color is medium to dark green and in autumn it achieves a brilliant and lasting assortment of yellow, orange, crimson, and maroon. The sweetspire grows best in full sun but can flourish in partial shade in fertile and moist soil of varying pH levels. It is generally uninhabited by pests and is also deer and drought resistant. It is useful if you desire early summer bloom and perfect for fall foliage as it is both deciduous and semi-evergreen; it also attracts butterflies when in bloom.

The wood of white oak has long been considered ideal for a wide variety of purposes. It's used frequently in Japanese martial arts. The great density and strength make it unlikely to splinter if broken. The United States Constitution is made from white oak! Its history in North America reaches back even further. Native Americans used to boil and eat the acorns. White oak is the state tree of Connecticut, Illinois, and Maryland.
