SavATree Supports Riverkeeper’s Shad Festival with Tree Climbing Activity for Kids

Garrison, New York—May 21, 2006—SavATree conducted a kids tree climbing activity in support of Riverkeeper’s 17th Annual Shad Festival held at the Historic Boscobel Restoration. Hundreds of children tested their strength and enjoyed a tree’s eye view of smiling parents as they climbed 8 ropes overlooking the Hudson River. The main goal of the festival is to raise awareness of the poor conditions and improve the health of the Hudson River. The day long program of family-oriented activities, environmental education, and entertainment are also aimed to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices.

SavATree Bedford Branch Manager Ralph Robbins said, “SavATree’s rope climbing is one of the most exciting events there because it is adventurous and interactive.” SavATree also handed out “Timely Tips” newsletters to parents in an effort to raise tree care and organic lawn care awareness, and children’s T-shirts that read Junior Arborist. Riverkeeper event coordinator Teresa Walsh stated, “SavATree’s tree climbing is one of the most beloved attractions at the event. Every year there are always long lines of children who look forward to it.” SavATree has consecutively participated in the Shad festival for the last five years.

Over 1500 families throughout the Hudson River Valley, NJ, CT and NYC come to the Shad Festival each year, making it one of the largest community events in the tri-state area. The event originally started with Robert Kennedy Jr. hosting it in his back yard, and eventually grew into a larger festival at Boscobel. In addition to SavATree’s children’s harnessed tree climbing, featured activities included yoga, boat building, kayaking, and landscape photography. Carolin Serino, Executive Director at Boscobel said, “It was a wonderful day in spite of the rain. The clouds disappeared, the sun came out and it was festive as always.” Teresa Walsh added, “SavATree is an extremely respected organization…we have supporters of all kinds, and we hope SavATree will always want to participate in the event.” For more information about SavATree’s participation in the Shad Festival, contact us at [email protected] or (800)-341-8733.
