SavATree Helps Prepare the Forbus Butternut Tree for Winter

Poughkeepsie, NY. December 14, 2010.
SavATree arborists and tree service experts routinely donate their time and efforts to help maintain the famous Forbus Butternut Tree located in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The massive 150+ year-old butternut tree, the largest of its species in New York state, was made famous when caring residents of the Forbus Avenue neighborhood stepped up and rallied against private developers who were about to chop it, and dozens of other nearby trees, down.

In 2001 the residents officially formed the Forbus Butternut Association, a not-for-profit 501c3 organization aimed to save the tree and property from developers for good. The tree is now a landmark and the property it sits on a neighborhood park for all to enjoy.

Brad Gurr, certified arborist with SavATree explained, “We inspect the tree two times a year to make sure it is healthy and safe. If we diagnose an issue, we proactively treat it. In additional, we prune and feed the tree regularly.”

SavATree treats the tree with ArborKelp®, their patented biostimulant designed to promote root growth and heighten stress tolerance.

Brad went on to say, “For a tree of this age, it’s in very good health.”

Gary Privratsky, President of the Forbus Butternut Association said, “SavATree has been like a good neighbor to the tree — they have been watching over it since 2003. I am quite pleased with Brad’s and SavATree’s efforts.”
