Tree service professionals, lawn care specialists, office staff, crew members and certified arborists at SavATree take their responsibility as a corporate citizen seriously. SavATree is a corporate member or sponsor of over fifty organizations throughout the United States, supporting such important functions as historic landmarks, museums, community parks, botanical gardens, arboretums, schools, garden clubs, and professional associations.
Tree services, lawn care and other forms of support are provided when possible to philanthropic organizations and special community properties that do not have the adequate budget to properly care for their landscape. On multiple occasions each year, we volunteer our expertise, equipment, and lawn care expertise to help under funded reclamation, restoration and historic preservation projects. In addition to monetary contributions, SavATree team members are active participants in fund-raising events, educational programs and environmental celebrations within their communities.
TLC FOR NYC TREES IN CENTRAL PARK - Twenty-five SavATree volunteers conducted a large-scale, all-day community service project on May 13, 2008 for approximately seventy-five trees in the East Meadow knoll of New York City's Central Park. The goal of the restoration project in conjunction with The Central Park Conservancy was to provide much needed maintenance, accentuate the natural beauty of the trees, maximize safety along pathways and open up the view. The project included work on a variety of species, including lindens, cherries, sugar maples, red maples, white pines, elms, crabapples and sycamores. Chipped wood from the project will be reused in other areas of the park. The volunteer crew also planted a commemorative crabapple tree on site.
SAVATREE CELEBRATES ARBOR DAY - Arborists from Mamaroneck, NY celebrated Arbor Day by teaching students about the importance of tree preservation and providing tree care and lawn care lessons. Certified arborists Steve Skyer and Elliot Krauss commemorated Arbor Day with a variety of lawn care and tree care activities at the Thornton-Donovan School. They held a discussion of plant diseases in the landscape environment, hosted a digital scavenger hunt, and planted an English oak tree. He also handed out tree care activity books to younger kids. John Morris celebrated with students at the Chapin School by helping 3rd graders plant a tree and apply an ArborKelp treatment to help the tree grow healthy. He also answered questions about tree services and lawn care.
KIDS CLIMBING AT RIVERKEEPER SHAD FESTIVAL - SavATree contributed to the excitement at the 18th Annual Shad Festival & Hudson River Celebration at Boscobel Restoration by giving kids the opportunity to experience harnessed tree climbing first hand. Hundreds of kids tested their own strength and ability as they climbed 8 ropes overlooking the Hudson River. The day long program of family-oriented activities, environmental education and entertainment aimed to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices. SavATree handed out newsletters to parents in an effort to raise awareness of green tree services and organic lawn care, and children’s t-shirts that read "Go Green".
MILLENIUM PARK TOWERS PROJECT - SavATree donated tree services to care for a small grove of trees in
Manhattan
, two blocks from where the
World
Trade
Towers
fell. As treasured as they might be, the reality was that the young trees in
Millennium
Park
had inherently poor structure and were in need of a lot of help. SavATree restored them to a more natural condition by providing their tree services. Additionally, structural modifications were started and will continue to accommodate traffic flow and signage issues. This project received the 2003 Excellence in Arboriculture Award.
GROUND ZERO RECLAMATION PROJECT - In April of 2002, St. Paul’s Chapel, which served as a relief center for emergency and rescue workers at Ground Zero, welcomed a team of 30 SavATree arborists and landscape professionals who performed their tree services as part of the post September 11 reclamation of the area. Experienced climbers removed remaining debris, including embedded glass, aluminum blinds, clothing and drapery from the specimen Sycamore, Elm and Oak trees on this historic property. All trees received tree services including professional maintenance pruning and crown cleaning.
HISTORIC HUDSON VALLEY RIVER DAY - On Sunday, August 7, 2005, a network of six historic sites in Sleepy Hollow Country and the Great Estates region held River Day at Van Cortlandt Manor. The event celebrates the area's relationship with the Croton and Hudson Rivers. A series of hands-on activities, including displays from some of the region's most influential environmental organizations make this a great day for the entire family to get involved in understanding the cultivation and use of two of the Hudson Valley's great rivers. SavATree was proud to participate by conducting a cross-cut sawing competition.
LIBERTY ISLAND RESTORATION PROJECT - SavATree was honored to reestablish the architectural intent on the west side of Liberty Island, home of one of our most revered national treasures, The Statue of Liberty. They provided their tree services when 100 Littleleaf linden trees were pruned and cleaned to restore the original design of the entrance, which intended to create a natural line of sight to the Statue and emphasize the prominence of the Statue of Liberty as the centerpiece of the entire island.
